Zine-making
This year I set myself the challenge of making an 8-page minizine every week. I am using this as an opportunity to make more work without the pressure of things being ‘finished’ or ‘polished’, and without the pressure of uploading a daily drawing the instagram, for example. It is a challenge I can complete comfortably, in my own time – the nature of zines means that even on busy weeks I am able to find pockets of time to complete something quickly, or on slower weeks I can make something more involved. The variety and freedom has been really liberating and it feels great to see 6 months worth of work all together, cut and folded into satisfying little booklets. I’m learning so much about my creative process and writing style, and it’s really interesting to see how themes evolve and recur from week to week.
On top of this momentum , I’ve recently started a monthly zine club at Artists at the Meadows in Chelmsford. This community run gallery space has a great, creative energy to it, so it is the perfect location for workshops. I’m hoping more and more people will discover the joy of The next workshop will be on Saturday 3rd August, 10am-12pm and is completely free to attend.
